Elementary Field Trip to Museum of Discovery

While perils avail, this motley crew set on a journey to the Museum of Discovery! While the journey was long we enjoyed ourselves in-spite of it!
Our first stop was the Amazing Science Show, where Alice learned of her super strength super power! And 6 of our other crew members were surprised!

And discovered our new dear GATE teacher works for the DARK SIDE.

We then ventured to the Body Room and learned all kinds of neat facts about our own bodies.
Played mind games with each other.
And got caught climbing on the equipment.
We then went to the TESLA coil show! Where we learned all about Nikola Tesla and his grand invention. We then listened to the Tesla Coil play music for us and felt the rumblings of the sounds waves on our feet!

No trip would be complete without a little sustenance to fuel the rest of our journey.

Then we discovered the new talent of a few students to tell the weather, news, sports, and current events.
Thank you for all that came with us on this adventurous journey! We hope to have our own Museum of Inventors and Inventions up and running soon and hope you'll visit it as well in your very own neighborhood GATE room.

Meet Mrs. Brown

Wonderful Wednesday!

I have felt so welcomed coming back to my Alma Mater!

My name is Kayla Brown and I am the new HSES GATE teacher. I am thrilled to work with all these wonderful students!

I wanted to share a few things about myself. I graduated with my Masters in Gifted, Talented, and Creative this past December. I am married. I have two wonderful kitty cats! My favorite activities include quilting, playing boardgames, Minecraft, and hiking.

I look forward to the many adventures we're going to be having here at HSES GATE! Some of you have probably heard I am also piloting a program called Prime Time, this has been a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with 4th and 5th grade students. We are currently working on reading and writing algorithms. Which is wonderful because in GATE we are working on being problem solvers! (Our theme at the elementary is PROBLEM SOLVING!)

Thank you for all of your support!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Medieval Banquet - 5th Grade

The Power of People Helping Kids

The Heber Springs Elementary GATE students recently joined kids around the country and participated in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund). UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. UNICEF has spent 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families; defending children's rights throughout their lives requires a global presence. The local students raised $420.00 for UNICEF and decided to use it to purchase two school-in-a-box kits, which will help 80 refugee kids learn and heal. These students set a goal and accomplished it... So proud of them for being a part of a global effort-Kids Helping Kids!!
