Comet ISON (all)

COMET NEWS: Observers around the world report that Comet ISON is now visible in binoculars.  The comet is brightening as it plunges toward the sun for a perilous pass through the solar atmosphere on Nov. 28th.  It is not, however, the brightest comet in the night sky.  As November unfolds, there is a rare gathering of four comets rising in the east before dawn. Visit http://spaceweather.com to find out which one is outshining media-favorite ISON.

DON'T MISS THE NEXT SOLAR FLARE: Lately, solar activity has been high. Would you like a call when solar flares are underway? X-flare alerts are available from http://spaceweathertext.com (text) and http://spaceweatherphone.com(voice).

Veteran's Day Assignments for ALL students

Assignment #1:  Make a veteran a card (please feel free to make more than one).  Remember, many of these men and women risked their lives so you can live freely.  If you don't know a veteran, I will have a list in my classroom.  Please have these ready for Monday.

Assignment #2:  Research your family history in the military.  You may know that your grandpa served in the war,  try to learn specifics.  For example, deployments, wars, jobs, rank, how long in military?  This is your family history, have fun with it and learn about your family.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Jules Verne

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

All classes in grades 2-5 will have this classic read before Thanksgiving-- it will be another great adventure!!!

The Original Undersea Epic Adventure!
A character named Professor Aronnax narrates this sweeping undersea epic, considered by many to be one of the greatest adventures of all time. Aronnax bravely agrees to investigate a mysterious sea monster, only to discover it is actually an enormous high-tech submarine. When he boards the vessel, run by Captain Nemo, he learns the story of the submarine's fantastic voyage from the lost continent of Atlantis to the South Pole. Remarkable descriptions of sunken ships, never-before-seen creatures of the deep, and wonderful inventions are even better when you know that they are entirely the product of the author's imagination; he wrote the book before submarines existed! A wonderful introduction to classics.
