Fall Leaf, Wildflower, and/or Insect Collection (Grades 3,4,5,6)

Fall Leaf, Wildflower, and/or Insect Collection

The first major assignment for the first quarter will be due October 15th.  Students will need to collect a total of 30 different species of leaves, fall wildflowers, and/or insects.

The student can choose to do all three collections (with a total of 30, I will let the student decide how to split the collection up).

The student can choose to do two collections (with a total of 30, I will let the child decide how to split the collection up).  The student can choose to focus on one collection (with a total of 30 in the collection).

I want the students to be creative with their collections.  You can do a leaf and flower collection using books and paper towels to press the leaves/flowers.  You can also take pictures with your phone/camera and print out or have your child present as a Powerpoint presentation.

Please be sure your name and grade are on the front cover of your collection.  I will have books in my classroom to help identify the different species collected.  The internet is also another great source for identifying samples collected.  This could easily be a great way to spend some family time together in the great outdoors J

I will provide plastic slip covers for kids if they need them.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

AGATE Parent Group

Dear Friends,

Heber Springs AGATE (Arkansans for Gifted and Talented Education) is in our 21st year of support for the Heber Springs GATE Program.  The purpose of this organization is to promote the education and welfare of the gifted and talented students of Heber Springs.

The goals for Heber Springs AGATE are as follows:

1)       To serve as a unified voice for gifted and talented students.

2)      To increase public awareness by offering information and education about the GATE     program.

3)      To provide manpower and support.

4)      To establish and provide additional enrichment programs (student trips).

5)      To establish working relationships with other state and national organizations.

Membership is open to any individual who is interested in and supports the purpose and goals of this organization.

Annual dues for membership are $20 per family.  This entitles each parent, and each GATE student in the family to vote at our monthly meetings.  Do NOT send cash.

This organization needs your support and your attendance at each and every meeting.

Thank you,

AGATE Officers

Our first AGATE meeting will be on October 2 at 11:00 in the elementary GATE classroom (room 117, behind the counselors’ office).  We will be soliciting your suggestions and input on any further fund-raising ideas and programs for this school year.

Please send the following family membership form and money to Ms. Brogdon, or bring it with you when you come to the meeting.  NO CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED!

If you have any questions, please call 501-691-3288.

Helping Hat Friday's at Heber Springs Elementary

Friday's will be "helping hat" Friday's at the elementary.  Our counselor's have started a new program to let the kids who bring a non-perishable food item wear a hat to school on Friday's.  It really does feel good to help others!  This is a great lesson for all of our students!

I will be posting pictures of the hats tomorrow :-)
